Pre Authorisation Policy
When is the card pre-authorised?
All credit or debit cards are pre-authorised on booking.
What is a pre-authorisation?
A Pre-authorisation is a temporary hold of a specific amount of the available balance on your credit or debit card. The pre-authorisation is not a debit and no funds have been taken from your account.
When did Dalmacia & Adria Hotels start this practice?
We have been preauthorising credit/debit cards since 2005. This is not a new practice nor do we hide the fact that we must do this. Since debit cards are more in use, and are tied directly to a guest’s current account rather than a credit account, more guests have had questions regarding this practice.
How much is a pre-authorisation?
We pre-authorise for the 1st night’s accommodation.
Why is the credit card pre-authorised?
When you give us a credit/debit card, the pre-authorisation guarantees us that funds are available to pay for the 1st night’s accommodation.
- At best this means there were insufficient funds on the card for the 1st night’s accommodation.
- The card may be out of date or over the set limit.
- It may be a pre-paid card that does not allow pre-authorisation.
- At worst the card is stolen or cloned, so why would we be keeping a room.
Who is responsible for the pre-authorisation procedure?
Elavon Merchant Services are responsible for the maintenance and management of the pre-authorisation process. Should you have any queries regarding your pre-authorisation or any part of the process, they can be contacted on 0845 6080120.
When does the pre-authorisation get released from the credit card?
This varies dependent on your individual credit/debit card. Any payment charged to your card, will appear on your statement within 3 working days. If you choose to pay the balance with another credit card or method of payment the pre-authorisation will clear from your account.
Can the Pre-Authorization be removed sooner?
This again depends on your credit / debit card company. We are unable to remove pre-authorizations directly through our office; we can only place them on. We have found that most credit/debit card companies remove the preauthorization within 72 hours of our actual charge being posted. However if your particular company does take longer and you would like to take steps to have it removed sooner, speak with the receptionist and they can provide you with a form that you can fill out and fax to your company to aid in speeding up its removal.
What if I do not have or do not want to use a credit / debit card?
Guests can either send a cheque (drawn on a UK Bank) 7 days leading to the arrival date or leave a cash deposit with reception.
We thank you for your patience, understanding, and cooperation.
